A significant portion of Kenya’s population don’t have access to enough nutritious food, especially in arid or semi-arid areas that comprise most of the country’s land area. Just Earth partners with local churches and small-holder farmers to bring transformation to communities in rural Africa by showing them on how they can grow more crops and live better lives.

Just Earth has 15 years of experience in helping farmers improve their farming methods and set up small businesses by providing Farm Schools – extensive weekly training over a two-year period by trained agricultural facilitators that are coordinated by a local agronomist. Training is in well-established agricultural methods, nutrition, hygiene, finance management, and entrepreneurship. The program also includes interest-free loans for seed and fertilizer. They have demonstrated significant increases in harvest size (3x-8x), reducing hunger, improving health, and enabling families.

Alex Lloyd Davies , sponsored the grant request by Just Earth and is joined in her efforts by David Cross, another P&G alum, who worked in UK Sales in between 1974-1982. David has been involved with Just Earth since 2012 and is currently a pro bono Director focusing on providing farmers sales advice. The P&G Alumni Foundation grant of US$25,000, will expand the number of farm schools from 18 to 20. The program’s 20 farm schools will enable 720 additional farmers to be trained, create 40 jobs, and indirectly impact 22,680 + people.

Sophia had struggled to grow enough maize and beans as staple crops. All that changed thanks to Just Earth. Following her training, Sophia was awarded first prize from the Kenyan Ministry of Agriculture. Now, Sophia is an inspiration to many and continues to develop her farm producing a wide variety of food as well as raising cattle, goats, and chickens. Sophia’s Story
