P&G Alum
Janet first engaged with United Way in the US. P&G introduced her to charities that were supported by United Way, and she volunteered with these organizations for a number of years. Janet moved to Ghana in 2000, and she was invited to be part of a group of business leaders who would go on to establish United Way Ghana. Intrigued by the opportunity, Janet stepped up and became the founding Board Chair for United Way Ghana in 2003. She’s been involved with United Way for almost two decades, helping countless children and their families through local philanthropy.

United Way Ghana Project
The P&G Alumni Foundation grant is funding a project that will provide financial literacy training, vocational skills and mentoring to young people in the area of Senya Beraku, in central Ghana. This will help these groups develop new skills for managing and running businesses focused on: jewelry, batik, tie and dye fabric, soap, pomade, hand sanitizer, face masks and other items. As a result of this initiative, 80 people will be trained, 40 new businesses will be established, 80 new jobs will be created, and 560 family members will be positively impacted.
Success Story – “It’s my business now.”
My name is Rose, and I participated in the PPE production training organized by United Way Ghana. I also learned how to make liquid soap, hand sanitizer, and the nose mask I am wearing. Now I have my own job using my skills to support myself and my family. I plan to also distribute some of my products to the needy to help more Ghanaians.
“I thank United Way Ghana so much for giving me this opportunity to participate in this training. God bless United Way Ghana” – Rose, A Beneficiary
